Though The Witcher star lost out on Bond fifteen years ago, he had since said that “missing out on the big roles is actually a good thing”.

He was only 20 when he missed out on playing 007 and has gone on to star in numerous hits, including Immortals, The Witcher, Mission Impossible, and of course, he is now the face of Superman.

“If Barbara [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli] and Mike [co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity,” he told GQ.

“At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond; it would be very, very exciting.”

Well, being on a first-name basis with the powers that be is certainly a good sign. However, there are numerous factors to take into account when considering the next Bond.  Now Amazon is taking over the rights to No Time To Die – through the purchase of MGM – there could be disagreements between Amazon Studios and Eon productions, who own half of the franchise, over the future direction of the films.

Cavill is also approaching forty, and though he has arguably never looked better, Amazon and Eon could look to bring in a younger star to attract a younger audience. Another factor to consider is the growing demand for better representation in the Bond franchise. Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Gillian Anderson, and Emily Blunt names have all popped up.

As have other A-list actors including Tom Hardy, , Bridgeton’s Regé-Jean Page, Richard Madden, Michael B Jordan, and Henry Golding.
